Janet Nelson

I paint portraits, landscapes and flowers using mainly oil or watercolour, sometimes acrylic, pastels or ink.
I have painted for pleasure since childhood having been strongly influenced by a family that regarded Art and Creativity to be mankind’s most important pursuit. When I first came to live on Mull in 1970, there were no galleries or venues for artists. However, the Inniemore School of Painting at Carsaig was in action and its founder, Julia Wroughton, became a close friend. With her encouragement and the help of many others, we put on an exhibition of local artists at Glengorm Castle in 1982, the success of which surpassed all our expectations. Other exhibitions followed with an artist group on the Ross of Mull organizing further exhibitions. Now we have An Tobar and many other venues. The Mull and Iona Artist Trail and Artist Directory is a further positive development for the artistic life and cultural enrichment of all of us.
