Monica Haddock is a handweaver and natural dyer and enjoys other craftspeople working in her home studio space. There are four floor looms, 4,8,16 shafts and 2 shaft upright rug/tapestry loom. 4 and 8 shaft, and rigid heddle table looms. One floor and one table inkle loom. Other fibre arts equipment includes crochet, spinning, felting, rug hooking and dyeing. The studio is a stone building situated on a 2-acres smallholding where Monica is developing dye plant gardens in particular woad, alongside a variety of wildflowers. There is a sheltered tidal harbour, views of Burg, Ben More and Loch Scridian. From New Zealand, Monica studied Handwoven Textiles at Nelson ICT and has been in the UK since 2007. Before coming to Mull in 2016 to be head weaver at Ardalanish Isle of Mull Weavers, Monica was teaching textiles for the Derbyshire Eco Centre, craft afternoons and crochet at the Medway Centre in Bakewell and running a weaving department in a day centre for adults with disabilities.
