Teresa Munby Workshop
The studio/workshop is a large outbuilding in the garden at Rockdale Cottage, Dervaig where work is made, thrown and fired.
The workshop at Rockdale Cottage, was formally a bakehouse -carefully constructed from an original outbuilding with non-slip flooring, excellent lighting, good insulation, an electrical supply suitable for baking ovens and large industrial sinks -all of which was fit for a pottery in the making! The studio has been modified for ceramics with sink traps to prevent clay clogging up the drains and work surfaces for hand building clay. The addition of a kiln and a potter’s wheel has enabled this former bakehouse to become an ideal pottery studio and workshop.
Teresa Munby’s work is inspired from the natural world in places she has loved to visit and spend time: Ailebrack, on the wild west coast of Ireland; The Isles of Scilly, an archipelago off the SW tip of Cornwall; and most recently Dervaig on the Isle of Mull where she now divides her time between here and landlocked Oxford. In the studio you will see how pots are made and some of the natural forms which have inspired them.
